Individual Counseling

In person in Denton. Telehealth available across Texas.

Something has shifted, and you know it.

Maybe it happened all at once: a divorce, an unexpected loss, a betrayal, or a good career unfairly imploded. Maybe it has been slower: the kids left, you retired, you divorced, you got what you worked for and realized it does not feel the way you thought it would.

For most of my clients, what made them succesful eventually stops working.

People come to counseling from many places. Some are overwhelmed navigating a life crisis. Others look completely fine from the outside while something inside feels off, flat, anxious, or disconnected. Most people are somewhere between those two places.

You do not have to be in crisis to take your needs seriously.

This work is about figuring out who you are on the other side of whatever has changed. Not just what to do next, but what you actually want your life to look like now.

Common Reasons toStart Individual Counseling

Individual counseling gives you a place to slow down, get honest, and work directly with the patterns that are starting to cost you.

Clients often come in for support with:

  • Anxiety and overthinking: Your brain does not shut off, even when the day is over.
  • Burnout and stress overload: You are still functioning, but your bandwidth is gone.
  • Work pressure and leadership strain: Your career is taking up more of your life than you want it to.
  • Relationship patterns: The same dynamics keep showing up with different people.
  • Breakup, divorce, or betrayal recovery: Something happened, and it is still affecting you more than you expected.
  • Life transitions: You are in a new season and not sure who you are supposed to be in it.
  • Emotional regulation: You want better tools for anxiety, anger, shutdown, avoidance, or reactivity.

Who I Work With

  • High-achieving and aspiring professionals and leaders
  • Parents and caregivers
  • First responders and medical professionals
  • LGBTQ+ adults
  • Athletes and performance-minded clients
  • Adults navigating divorce, breakup, betrayal, grief, or major life changes

What many of my clients have in common is that they are capable, self-aware, and used to carrying a lot. Some struggle presonally, others find themselves struggling professionally. My clients are not looking for vague encouragement. They want therapy that is honest, useful, and connected to real change.

How I Approach Individual Therapy

My style is direct, practical, and collaborative. I am not going to let you circle the same topic for months without pushing toward movement.

That does not mean rushing past what hurts. It means we take the work seriously.

I draw from evidence-informed approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused techniques, Relational Life Therapy, emotional regulation work, narrative therapy, and experiential approaches. In plain language, that means we look at what is happening, where the pattern came from, how it shows up now, and what you can actually do differently.

Therapy here is not just a place to vent. It is a place to understand yourself more clearly, build tools that hold up outside the session, and practice showing up differently in your life and relationships.

What to Expect

First Session

The first session is an assessment and alignment. We will talk through what is bringing you in, what has changed, what you want to work on, and whether this is the right fit.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you come in. Part of the work is getting a clearer picture of what is actually going on.

Ongoing Sessions

Ongoing sessions focus on patterns: where they come from, how they show up, and how to interrupt them.

That may include skill-building, emotional regulation, nervous system work, relationship patterns, boundaries, grief, identity, and honest conversation about what is getting in the way.

Timeline

Many clients begin noticing concrete shifts within 6 to 10 sessions, though the timeline depends on what we are working on and how long the pattern has been in place. I do not shy away from depth work.

I will be straightforward with you about what seems realistic and what kind of work may be needed.

Is Individual Counseling Right for You?

This may be a good fit if you:

  • Want tools, not just a place to vent
  • Are willing to be challenged and supported
  • Are ready to look at your own patterns honestly
  • Want therapy that connects insight with action
  • Have been putting this off and are ready to start
